Leona Louise Lewis (born 3 April 1985) is a British artist, singer also known as actress, and activist. Born and raised in Islington, a part of the London Borough of Islington, she studied at her school at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in Croydon. Lewis was able to gain not only national recognition when she took home the third season of The X Factor in the year 2006. In addition, she received a PS1 Million recording contract from Syco Music. A song by Kelly Clarkson"A Moment Like This" was her winning song. The song racked up 50,000 digital downloads in just thirty minutes, and peaked at No. 1 for about four weeks. In February 2007 Lewis agreed to sign a five-album deal with the United States with Clive Davis's record label J Records. Her success continued after she debuted her first album Spirit (2007). It was certified platinum in the UK and became the fourth most-sold album in the 2000s. According to the Official Charts Company claims that Spirit was the 21st-century's best-selling album for a debut female. Its single "Bleeding Love" continued to be at the top of UK chart for seven weeks and became the single with the highest sales in the year 2007. In the US this was the top-selling single in the year and Lewis was named Best New Artist by Billboard that same year. The singer released Echo in 2009 and also created "I Love You" for the film's title song. In 2011, Lewis released the single "Collide" as a collaborative effort together with Swedish DJ Avicii along with her first extended work, Hurt: The EP. Glassheart (2012) came out as Lewis's three studio albums. The album was Lewis' first venture into electronic music , dubstep, and electronic music. The singer began recording material to her first Christmas album while on her Glassheart Tour, which took to the stage in the mid-2013 timeframe. In the following year, Christmas with Love featuring her lead single "One more night" came in at number three across the UK. Lewis, who is a British female solo artist, was the first British solo artist to break the top five with eight songs. The record is higher than Olivia Newton John's record which contained seven songs.
